Text scam targets residents in Greenfield

1 min read

GREENFIELD, MA — Police are warning residents about a phone and text message scam in which callers falsely claim recipients have outstanding arrest warrants.

The Greenfield Police Department said it has received numerous calls from residents reporting the scam messages.

The fraudulent communications allege there is a warrant for the recipient’s arrest and request personal information or money, according to police.

Police said they will never contact residents by text message or phone call to notify them of arrest warrants or request personal or financial information.

Residents who receive such messages do not need to contact police unless they have already provided personal or financial information to the scammers, the department said.
