Firearm seizure in Hartford

HARTFORD, CT — Hartford police said members of the Street Crimes Unit arrested a convicted felon after finding two semiautomatic handguns during an investigation at the intersection of Kensington Street and Barbour Street on April 24.

Police said officers observed a vehicle improperly parked and impeding traffic and approached to conduct a motor vehicle stop.

As officers approached, a man standing nearby quickly entered the front passenger seat and attempted to conceal a cross-body bag, police said.

Police said their investigation found the passenger, Michael Asberry, 44, of Hartford, in possession of two semiautomatic handguns.

Asberry was taken into custody without incident, police said.

He was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, theft of a firearm and possession of a high-capacity magazine.

Police said recovered evidence included a Taurus G2C 9mm with a high-capacity magazine holding 12 rounds, an FN FNS-9C 9mm with a high-capacity magazine holding 11 rounds and 114 rounds of assorted ammunition.

The FN FNS-9C had been reported stolen from Manchester, police said.
