SPRINGFIELD, VT — Vermont State Police arrested a New Hampshire man on multiple charges following a traffic stop on Interstate 91 early Saturday morning.
Jose Luis Ortiz Cruz, 55, of Londonderry, New Hampshire, was taken into custody at approximately 1:47 a.m. on April 25, 2026.
State police received a report from a concerned motorist about a vehicle’s manner of operation on I-91 southbound from mile marker 49 in the Town of Weathersfield.
Troopers intercepted the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop at mile marker 43.2 southbound in Springfield.
Troopers, with assistance from the Windsor County Sheriff’s Department and Springfield Police Department, made contact with Cruz.
Investigation revealed Cruz was under the influence of alcohol.
During a search incident to arrest, troopers located a substance later identified as cocaine on Cruz’s person, with additional cocaine found in the vehicle.
Cruz was transported to the Westminster Barracks for processing and later lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility.
He was issued a criminal citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court Windsor Criminal Division on May 12, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.
Cruz faces charges of DUI refusal, possession of cocaine and negligent operation.
