SEYMOUR, CT — A Seymour police officer was arrested and charged with first-degree larceny following an investigation by Connecticut State Police.

Officer Justin Quilty was arrested Monday and is accused of misappropriating $32,250.80 from local police union bank accounts for personal use.

Quilty previously served as president of the police union and joined the Seymour Police Department in August 2022.

The investigation began in October 2025 when officers discovered discrepancies in union bank account balances that indicated Quilty had misappropriated funds, according to a press release from Chief John A. Bucherati.

Officers brought their concerns to the administration, and Quilty was placed on administrative leave at that time.

The State’s Attorney’s Office was notified and Connecticut State Police were brought in to conduct a criminal investigation.

Quilty remains on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal and internal investigations.

The Seymour Police Department is conducting a concurrent internal investigation to determine whether any departmental policies or ethical standards were violated.

“We are committed to transparency and accountability,” Bucherati said in a statement.

“These allegations are serious, and we will continue to cooperate fully with the Connecticut State Police while ensuring due process is respected.”
