Driver dies after crashing into tree in Lacey Township

LACEY TOWNSHIP, NJ — A 39-year-old man died Wednesday morning after his vehicle crashed through a residential fence and struck a tree.

Eric Olesen, of Forked River, was pronounced dead at the scene at the intersection of Lake Barnegat Drive North and Haines Street.

The Lacey Township Police Department responded to the crash at 7:52 a.m. Wednesday, along with members from Lanoka Harbor EMS and Robert Wood Johnson Paramedics.

A preliminary investigation determined that Olesen was traveling eastbound on Haines Street when he turned onto Lake Barnegat Drive North and drove off the roadway.

The vehicle crashed through the fence of a Haines Street residence, continued into the backyard and struck a tree.

No other injuries were reported at the scene.

The Lacey Township Police Department Fatal Accident Support Team, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigations Unit and Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to investigate.

The crash remains under investigation by Officer Tyler Walsh.
