Police issue citations for suspected street racing in Albany

ALBANY, NY — Officers conducting proactive enforcement on Central Avenue near Westgate Plaza intervened before a suspected illegal street racing group could form on April 4, 2026.

The enforcement action occurred around 8:30 p.m. Saturday in response to suspected illegal street racing activity in the area.

Officers issued eight speeding citations, one aggravated unlicensed operation charge and two unlicensed operator charges.

The enforcement is part of an ongoing effort to address illegal street racing and meet-ups before they can develop into a larger public safety concern, according to the Albany Police Department.

Officers were able to stop the gathering and discourage dangerous driving behavior by taking action early.
