Teen charged after accidental shooting in Albany

ALBANY, NY — A 15-year-old boy faces weapons charges after accidentally shooting himself in the leg early Monday morning.

Officers responded to the 100 block of Lark Street near Orange Street around 2:05 a.m. for reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found the juvenile with a gunshot wound to his lower leg.

The Albany Fire Department and Emergency Medical Personnel treated him at the scene before transporting him to Albany Medical Center Hospital in stable condition.

Investigation determined the shooting occurred inside a residence on the 100 block of Lark Street and that the injury was accidentally self-inflicted.

The 15-year-old, whose name will not be released due to his age, has been charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd and Reckless Endangerment 1st.

He will be arraigned in Albany County Family Court at a later date.

A 16-year-old male who was present during the shooting incident has also been charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd.

He was scheduled to be arraigned Monday afternoon in Albany County Family Court.
