Man arrested on firearm charges in Jamaica Plain

BOSTON, MA — A man was arrested Monday afternoon in Jamaica Plain on an active warrant and multiple firearm charges.

Members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested Muhammad Yahya, 46, of Jamaica Plain at about 1:49 p.m. in the area of 3090 Washington Street.

Officers were aware that Yahya had an active warrant issued out of Roxbury District Court on charges including carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card subsequent offense, carrying a firearm without a license third offense, firearm violation with prior violent or drug crime, possession of class B drugs and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Officers observed Yahya in the area of Atherton Street. He broke off from a group and walked toward Washington Street.

Officers caught up to him in the area of 3090 Washington Street, notified him of the warrant and placed him under arrest.

A search of Yahya led to the recovery of a firearm inside his pants pocket. The firearm was determined to be a Ruger .380 pistol loaded with seven rounds of live ammunition.

Yahya is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court on charges of carrying a loaded firearm third offense, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
