PORTLAND, ME — An 82-year-old man operating a dump truck swerved to avoid stopped traffic in front of him before swerving back to avoid oncoming traffic, resulting in a four-vehicle crash Monday afternoon.
The crash occurred at 12:44 p.m. on Washington Avenue near Byfield Road.
The dump truck driver’s actions caused a chain-reaction collision involving two dump trucks, a Toyota Tacoma and a Toyota Corolla.
The Tacoma was occupied by a 56-year-old woman and a 79-year-old woman.
The Corolla was operated by a 25-year-old man.
All three occupants were transported to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
A fourth vehicle, a dump truck operated by a 34-year-old man, was also involved.
The crash remains under investigation.
The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit assisted with the investigation.
Washington Avenue was closed for approximately two hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
No charges have been filed at this time.
