Suspects arrested after firearm, drugs found in Hartford

HARTFORD, CT — Two people were arrested after police said they found a firearm and narcotics during a vehicle pursuit in the city.

Officers with the Street Crimes Unit attempted to stop a vehicle committing motor vehicle violations in the area of Waverly Park on July 2, but the operator fled, police said.

A tire deflation device was deployed, and the vehicle was stopped near 900 Garden Street, where occupants fled on foot, according to police.

During the pursuit, the operator discarded a backpack containing a Glock Model 23 .40 caliber handgun equipped with an auto-sear, an obliterated serial number and a high-capacity magazine, police said. The operator escaped and was last seen on Johnson Terrace.

Two other occupants were apprehended following foot pursuits, police said.

Jadin Roberts, 22, of Hartford, was charged with interfering with police, weapons in a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to sell.

Makhai Collier, 22, of Hartford, was charged with interfering with police, weapons in a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, possession of narcotics and possession with intent to sell.

Police said they recovered the firearm with 21 live rounds, approximately 100 sleeves of packaged fentanyl, approximately 65 grams of packaged marijuana and $744 in cash.

The investigation is ongoing.
