ST. JOHNSBURY, VT — Officers of the St. Johnsbury Police received reports of stolen equipment from Vermont Rail Systems on July 7 and July 8.
An investigation was launched and on July 8, among the property stolen was a backpack.
While investigating, Joseph Greenwood, 45, of St. Johnsbury, was found sleeping on the stairs of the Portland Street Bridge.
Once Greenwood was awoken, officers found the stolen backpack being used for a pillow.
Greenwood was taken into custody and processed without incident.
Greenwood was later released on a citation to appear in Caledonia County Superior Court on Aug. 24 to answer the charge.
The investigation into the theft of several thousand dollars in equipment is ongoing.
