HARDWICK, MA — Lower Road will be closed to traffic starting Saturday at 7 a.m. through Sunday at about 3 p.m. for emergency repair of the railroad crossing near Old Furnace General Store.
The closure will be in effect the entire time as the crossing will be dug up.
Traffic will be detoured in Gilbertville at the intersection of Church Street and Hardwick Road to Hardwick center, taking Barre Road back to the intersection with Lower Road.
Residents, local traffic and those going to Hardwick Farmers Co-Op and Hardwick Crossing Country Club will need to enter those locations through Gilbertville.
Anyone going to River Run, High Road, Upper Church Street, Chagnon Road or Creamery Road can still use Lower Road but must tell the detail officer.
Traffic in Wheelwright will be detoured at the Lower Road and Barre Road intersection up Barre Road to Hardwick center and back down Hardwick Road.
Old Furnace General Store and its ATM will still be accessible at the end of the closure.
Traffic officers will be present the entire duration to assist motorists.
