Man arrested on attempted murder charge in Troy

TROY, NY — A 55-year-old Troy man was arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred early May 26.

At approximately 12:06 a.m., Troy Police officers on routine patrol in the area of Old 6th Avenue found an adult male suffering from two gunshot wounds.

The Troy Fire Department responded and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives identified a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant.

With assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, investigators determined the suspect had fled to Georgia.

Working with the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the suspect was located and taken into custody.

The individual waived extradition and will be returned to Troy to face prosecution by the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office.

Rodney D. Burton, 55, of Troy, was charged with attempted murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
