OLEAN, NY — An investigation into a reported hit-and-run determined a man died after crashing his E-bike.

Police responded June 20 at about 6 a.m. to a report of an E-bike on the side of the road on Queen Street.

Officers located the bike and later learned Nicholas Meyer had been taken to an emergency room with injuries.

The Criminal Investigation Unit and the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Department accident investigation unit responded.

Investigators reviewed video from a residence near the intersection and determined no vehicle struck Meyer.

Examination of the E-bike showed no evidence it had been run over or struck by a vehicle.

A truck that passed the intersection about six minutes before family members found Meyer was examined by the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Unit.

No evidence was found that the truck struck Meyer, and the driver was interviewed and cleared.

The District Attorney’s Office also assisted.

Meyer, of Olean, died from injuries sustained in the crash.
