CHELSEA, MA — A dog was seized by animal control officers following an incident July 6 on Chestnut St.

The dog is being held under a mandatory 10-day quarantine required by Massachusetts law.

The Chelsea Police Department said the dog was unlicensed.

Chief Keith E. Houghton said the department’s Professional Standards Division reviewed body-worn camera footage and determined officers acted appropriately.

The investigation is ongoing, with animal control officers evaluating potential violations of state law and city ordinances, including the city’s leash law.

Authorities said the matter primarily involves local ordinances and state animal control laws rather than criminal offenses.

Officials are considering whether to initiate a dangerous dog hearing under Massachusetts law.

The dog owner was not identified in the release.
