HARTFORD, CT — Hartford Police made a child exploitation arrest on July 8.
The Hartford Police Department’s Special Investigations Division – Child Exploitation Unit, in conjunction with the FBI Crimes Against Children/Human Trafficking Task Force, conducted an undercover operation targeting child exploitation.
During online conversations, the suspect communicated with an undercover FBI agent whom he believed to be an underage female.
The suspect arranged to meet the juvenile at a predetermined location to engage in sexual activity in exchange for money.
When the suspect arrived at the prearranged meeting location, he was taken into custody by Hartford Police detectives assigned to the Special Investigations Division, with assistance from the South Community Service Officers.
The suspect was transported to the Hartford Police Detention Division, where he was processed and held on a $500,000 bond.
Alexander Cruz, 58, of Willimantic, was arrested.
He faces charges of criminal attempt – sexual contact with a minor, criminal attempt 2nd degree, and criminal attempt – commercial sexual abuse of a minor.
