Man arrested on forgery, larceny charges in Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, NY — New York State Police arrested a man on forgery and larceny charges on July 2, 2026.

John Patterson, 42, of Chateaugay, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree and Grand Larceny in the Third Degree.

Troopers responded to County Route 20 in the town of Constable on June 4, 2026, at approximately 7:20 p.m. for a report of a fraud complaint.

An investigation determined Patterson, an employee of Mike’s Barn Painting, altered a company check in the amount of $18,961.56 before cashing it at a bank in Plattsburgh.

The investigation was conducted in coordination with the bank’s fraud department and the Clinton County District Attorney’s Office.

Investigators determined Patterson was responsible for altering and cashing the check.

Patterson was arrested and processed at SP Plattsburgh.

He was arraigned in the Town of Plattsburgh Court and released on his own recognizance.
