HARTFORD, CT — A traffic stop for motor vehicle violations led to the arrest of a Hartford man on firearm and drug charges.
Members of the Street Crimes Unit observed a vehicle committing multiple motor vehicle violations in the area of Mather Street and Bethel Street on June 24, 2026, before conducting a traffic stop at Main Street.
During the stop, Detective Moody’s K-9, Ace, alerted to the presence of narcotics.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a stolen firearm, a controlled substance, packaging materials, a scale and U.S. currency.
One suspect fled on foot but was quickly apprehended.
The suspect was transported to the Hartford Police Detention Facility.
Damion Lewwir-Gaynor, 21, of Hartford, was charged with weapons in a motor vehicle, stealing a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and interfering with an officer.
Police recovered a Walther P22 .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol, large bags of cannabis, $245 in U.S. currency, drug packaging materials and a scale.
