Shed fire injures person in Harpswell

HARPSWELL, ME — A fire at a shed on Smokehouse Road injured an unhoused person Wednesday evening.

The Harpswell Neck Fire Department responded to 23 Smokehouse Road shortly after 7 p.m. for a reported structure fire.

Firefighters arrived to find the shed fully engulfed in flames.

Crews extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading to nearby woods.

An unhoused individual who had been living in the shed sustained burns and smoke inhalation.

The person was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland for evaluation and treatment.

The Office of State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

Preliminary observations suggest the fire may have been electrical in nature.

Due to the extent of the damage, a final determination has not been made.
