BEAVER COUNTY, PA — The Beaver County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam involving callers impersonating law enforcement officials.
Citizens are receiving calls from someone identifying themselves as “Tony Guy” who claims to be from the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office.
The caller tells residents they missed something at the courthouse or owe money for fines.
Sheriff’s office officials say they do not contact people over the phone for missing courthouse appointments.
The office also does not ask for money or handle monetary transactions over the phone.
Authorities advise residents who receive such calls to inform the caller they will contact the sheriff’s office directly to confirm the statements.
Officials say legitimate callers would not object to verification, while scammers typically hang up immediately.
Residents are encouraged to block and report suspicious phone numbers.
