Wrong-way driver arrested on DUI charge in Westminster

WESTMINSTER, VT — Vermont State Police arrested a Connecticut man on suspicion of driving under the influence after reports of a wrong-way driver on Interstate 91 early Friday morning.

Police received a report at 12:26 a.m. of a vehicle traveling north in the southbound lane on Interstate 91 near mile marker 27 in Westminster.

Troopers from the Westminster barracks responded and safely stopped the vehicle after it corrected its travel near mile marker 36 in Rockingham.

The operator was identified as Marek Patoka, 58, of Rocky Hill, Connecticut.

Troopers observed indicators of impairment while interacting with Patoka.

Following an investigation, Patoka was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and negligent operation.

He was transported to the Vermont State Police barracks in Westminster for processing.

Patoka was issued a criminal citation and is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Windham Criminal Division, on July 14 at 8:30 a.m.
