Two arrested on child endangerment charges in Bath

BATH, NY — Two parents turned themselves in to police after their apartment was condemned due to deplorable living conditions.

Tyler Gilbert, 38, and Hailee Gilbert, 31, both of Bath, were arrested on two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, class A misdemeanors.

The arrests stem from an incident on May 28, 2026, when Bath Police Department responded to an address on Howell Street to assist Steuben County Child Protective Services with a home visit at approximately 1:11 p.m.

Officers observed the apartment covered in feces and garbage.

Two children were determined to reside in the apartment with their parents.

All furniture and the children’s sleeping areas were covered in feces, according to police.

CPS conducted an investigation and Bath Village codes condemned the residence.

A safety plan was put in place for the children.

The Gilberts turned themselves in at the Bath Police Department at approximately 12:00 p.m. on June 17, 2026.

Both were arraigned in Bath Village Court and released on their own recognizance.
