ALTON, NH — A motorcyclist remained hospitalized in serious but stable condition following a multi-vehicle collision on Mount Major Highway.
The Alton Police Department responded to the crash at approximately 11:05 a.m. on June 16 on NH Route 11 near the Mount Major Trailhead parking area.
A preliminary investigation indicates a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek operated by Cassandra Smith, 30, of Hampton, New Hampshire, was stopped in the westbound lane waiting to turn into the Mount Major Trailhead parking lot.
A 2002 GMC 1500 operated by James Thomas, 85, of Union, New Hampshire, was traveling west behind the Subaru.
For reasons unknown, the GMC failed to stop and collided with the Subaru from behind, pushing it into the eastbound lane.
The Subaru then collided with a 2023 Indian motorcycle operated by Brian Logan, 67, of Parrish, Florida.
A fourth vehicle traveling behind the motorcycle took evasive action and was forced off the roadway, sustaining minor damage.
Logan sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported by Alton Fire Rescue to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.
Thomas was transported to Concord-Laconia Hospital for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries.
Smith was treated at the scene for minor injuries along with her two passengers.
The operator and passengers of the fourth vehicle reported no injuries.
A section of Mount Major Highway from each end of Route 11D was closed during the investigation and reopened at approximately 3:18 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation.
