LEWISTOWN, PA — An 18-year-old man is facing charges after police say he argued with officers responding to a disturbance at a convenience store.
Officers responded to Sheetz at 113 North Juniata Street at 12:14 a.m. June 11 for a disturbance involving a large group of mostly juveniles.
Store employees reported that the group was inside the store harassing customers and refused to stop when asked multiple times.
As officers arrived, the group began to leave.
Joel A. Rodriguez, 18, of Derry Township, began arguing with officers and was detained in a patrol vehicle until witnesses could be interviewed.
A juvenile tried having contact with Rodriguez and became aggressive with officers when he was told to stay away.
The juvenile was also detained during the investigation.
Rodriguez is being charged with corruption of minors.
Other juveniles involved in the incident are being charged with curfew violations.
In other incidents during the week of June 11-17:
A Derry Township woman was charged with simple assault after police say she attacked an employee during a supervised visit with her children at 2:33 p.m. June 11 on the 100 block of South Main Street.
Alexis R. Williams, 29, allegedly grabbed a female employee by the hair with two hands and pulled her to the floor after the employee told Williams to stop inappropriately disciplining one of her children.
Williams then began punching the victim in the back of her head with a closed fist, police said.
Another employee pushed Williams off the victim, who was transported to the hospital by ambulance for minor injuries.
At 3:10 p.m. June 11, Brenda L. Walck, 63, of Lewistown, was cited for accidents involving damage to unattended vehicles after she admitted to striking a parked car on the 600 block of Valley Street and leaving without notifying the owner.
At 11:20 p.m. June 11, a 20-year-old Lewistown man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after officers stopped his vehicle on Montgomery Avenue for a turn signal violation.
The driver showed signs of impairment from consuming alcohol and from smoking marijuana and provided a preliminary breath test sample that was above the legal limit, police said.
Charges are pending toxicology reports.
Jason S. Gordon Sr., 49, with no fixed address, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana after officers stopped a vehicle at 4:47 p.m. June 13 on the 100 block of East Third Street.
Officers located a digital scale and methamphetamine in a bag where Gordon had been reaching, police said.
Gordon also had a marijuana cigarette in his possession and officers retrieved a bag of marijuana that he threw into the back seat when he was stopped.
Kurtis D. Perschau, 49, of Lewistown, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness after officers located him crossing a street near Sheetz at 11:39 p.m. June 13.
Perschau appeared to be impaired and admitted to recently ingesting methamphetamine, police said.
Officers responded to the 400 block of West Fourth Street at 7:05 a.m. June 14 for a report of cardiac arrest and located a 30-year-old male who was deceased.
The death appeared medically related and the Mifflin County Coroner’s office responded to investigate the cause of death.
James S. Varner was taken into custody at 12:24 p.m. June 14 on an active bench warrant for failure to pay issued by the Mifflin County Prothonotary’s Office.
Nakisha K. Wilson, 37, of Lewistown, was lodged in Mifflin County Correctional Facility at 3:56 p.m. June 14 on an active bench warrant from the prothonotary’s office.
Adam E. English, 31, of Lewistown, was charged with evading arrest or detention on foot after he tried to run away from officers at 5:03 p.m. June 14 on Woods Lane.
