Man arrested on drug charges in Worcester

WORCESTER, NY — A 36-year-old man faces felony drug charges following a welfare check in the town.

John M. Odbert, of Mt. Vision, was arrested June 2, 2026, after deputies from the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office conducted a welfare check.

Deputies determined through their investigation that Odbert was operating a vehicle from out of state while driving into Otsego County.

Odbert was taken into custody on suspicion of being impaired by narcotics and did not possess a valid driver’s license, according to the sheriff’s office.

Following his arrest, Odbert was found to be in possession of multiple illegal controlled substances, including approximately 9.2 grams of cocaine, approximately 73 Xanax pills not prescribed and three bottles of liquid methadone not prescribed, deputies said.

Odbert was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, driving while intoxicated and unlicensed operator.

He was processed and turned over to Otsego County Corrections pending centralized arraignment in Worcester Town Court.
