GENESEO, NY — A Monroe County man faces a felony charge after allegedly damaging property at the Livingston County Jail.
Christopher Montanez, 25, was observed punching and breaking the window of his cell door at approximately 6 a.m. June 5, 2026, according to Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty.
Deputies assigned to the jail division witnessed the incident.
Jail Division Sgt. Matthew Romanowski arrested Montanez and charged him with felony criminal mischief in the third degree.
Montanez was arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part at the Livingston County Jail before Town of Nunda Justice Morris.
The judge released Montanez on his own recognizance as the offense does not qualify for bail under the New York State Bail Reform Act.
Montanez remained in custody on unrelated charges.
The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented Montanez at the arraignment.
The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office represented the People.
