GOUVERNEUR, NY — New York State Police arrested a woman on June 8, 2026, for Unlawful Possession of Personal Identification Information in the 3rd Degree.
Melissa A. Owens, 42, of Ogdensburg, was taken into custody following an investigation into fraudulent activity involving the First Presbyterian Church.
Troopers received a complaint on Jan. 29, 2026, at approximately 2:44 p.m. regarding the fraudulent activity.
An investigation determined that Owens unlawfully obtained banking information belonging to the church and used the account numbers to create a Venmo account.
Following the investigation, troopers actively searched for Owens and obtained an arrest warrant.
Owens was subsequently located and taken into custody without incident.
Owens was processed by State Police and arraigned in the Town of Morristown Court.
She was released on her own recognizance.
