WATERBURY, CT — Police arrested a man on multiple charges after observing him operating an all-terrain vehicle on a city roadway on June 3, 2026.
Officers assigned to the Waterbury Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit and Auto Theft Task Force were conducting active patrols in the area of East Main Street and Meriden Road when they observed a blue and white ATV being operated on a city roadway.
Officers later located the ATV in the area of East Main Street, where they conducted a traffic stop and detained the operator, identified as Alejandro Fernandez-Medina, 26, of Waterbury.
Fernandez-Medina was arrested and charged with insufficient insurance, illegal operation of an ATV, unsafe storage of a firearm, weapons in a motor vehicle, carrying a pistol/revolver without a permit, operating/parking an unregistered motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.
Connecticut law requires ATVs operated in the state to be registered with the DMV, unless they are only being driven on property owned or leased by the ATV owner.
A registered ATV may only cross a public roadway in very limited circumstances, and it cannot be used to travel along public streets.
