BERLIN, VT — Vermont State Police arrested a Massachusetts man on multiple charges after he allegedly fled from troopers and threw evidence from his vehicle on Interstate 89.

Troopers were conducting routine patrols on Interstate 89 near Exit 7 at 7:35 p.m. on May 30, 2026, when they observed a vehicle committing multiple motor vehicle infractions.

Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop.

While eluding police, the vehicle was being operated in a grossly negligent manner, according to authorities.

The operator disposed of potential evidence by throwing it out of the vehicle onto Interstate 89, police said.

The vehicle eventually stopped and the operator was identified as Thomas Brown, 42, of Springfield, Massachusetts.

Brown was arrested and transported to the Berlin Barracks for processing.

He was released with a citation to answer to charges of eluding a police officer, obstruction of justice and gross negligent operation.
