Seven charged in robbery on Nichols Street in Utica

UTICA, NY — Seven people have been charged in connection with a robbery and assault that occurred May 12, 2026.

Utica Police units were dispatched to the 500 block of Nichols Street at approximately 7:15 p.m. regarding a robbery investigation.

The victim told police he was approached by a group of males who began to fight with him and attempted to take his e-bike.

The victim attempted to escape when the group chased him down and again began to violently assault him, according to police.

During the encounter, the e-bike was stolen and ridden away by members of the group.

The case was assigned to an investigator with the Juvenile Aid Unit due to the believed ages of the majority of the suspects.

Through an extensive investigation and review of multiple surveillance cameras, all of the suspects were located on video.

With the assistance of the Mohawk Valley Crime Analysis Center, UPD officers and Oneida County Probation Officers, all of the suspects were ultimately identified.

The following were charged with robbery in the second degree: two 17-year-old males, a 16-year-old male, two 15-year-old males and a 14-year-old male.

An 18-year-old male has yet to be charged, but will be identified upon arrest.
