Man arrested on domestic violence charges in Bath

BATH, NY — A Bath man faces multiple charges after police responded to a domestic dispute on East Washington Street on May 23.

Bath Police Officers were dispatched to a residence at approximately 7:56 p.m. for a report of a domestic dispute.

The caller was a family member who was on scene checking on the victim, due to not hearing from the victim in days.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim and her family and learned that Brandon Joseph Gattis, 30, of Bath, had been violently physically assaulting the victim for the past few weeks, with a seven-month-old child present.

The victim was observed by officers to have numerous injuries that had been inflicted by Gattis.

Gattis was apprehended by Bath Police officers and refused to cooperate with the investigation.

Gattis also attempted to escape his handcuffs multiple times and advised he was trying to leave after he was advised that he was under arrest.

Gattis was charged with assault in the second degree, a class D felony; assault in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor; attempted escape in the third degree, a class B misdemeanor; criminal obstruction of breathing, a class A misdemeanor; unlawful imprisonment in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor; and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.

Gattis was processed on his charges and transported to the Steuben County Jail where he remains held on bail.
