CHENANGO, NY — A Port Crane man has been arrested for Driving While Intoxicated following a crash on Interstate 88.
On June 16, 2026, around 11:30 p.m., Troopers were dispatched by the Broome County 911 Center to a report of a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 88 westbound in the town of Chenango.
An investigation at the scene determined that a 2020 Kia Forte and a 2025 Ford F250 were traveling westbound on Interstate 88 in an active construction zone where the right lane was closed.
The operator of the Kia Forte failed to observe the Ford F250 and subsequently struck the rear of the pickup truck.
No injuries were reported by the 27-year-old operator of the Kia, his 27-year-old female passenger or to the 53-year-old male operator of the pickup truck.
The operator of the Kia, Jon Caleb Hertzog, 27, of Port Crane, displayed characteristics associated with impairment.
Troopers administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which indicated impairment.
Hertzog was arrested and transported to SP Binghamton where his reportable B.A.C was .14%.
Hertzog was processed and issued appearance tickets to the Chenango Town Court on July 28, 2026.
