MOREAU, NY — A woman faces felony charges after authorities say she repeatedly scalded her dog with a chemical or unknown substance.

Vanessa R. French, 57, of Gansevoort, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of aggravated cruelty to animals, a class E felony.

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance call on Saratoga Road on May 20 at 9:16 a.m.

French is accused of intentionally causing serious physical injury to her companion dog by scalding it on several occasions, resulting in infection and burn wounds.

Authorities allege she intended to cause the animal extreme physical pain.

The dog was seized by Corinth animal control and transported to the Saratoga County Animal Shelter for evaluation and treatment.

Two cats were also seized by the Sheriff’s Office under a court order and turned over to the animal shelter.

French was arraigned before the Honorable Jeffrey B. McCabe of the Moreau Town Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail pending further proceedings.
