Two arrested on weapons charges in Newburgh

NEWBURGH, NY — Two people were arrested after state police found a loaded handgun during a traffic stop on Interstate 84 on May 22, 2026.

Members of the Troop F Community Stabilization Unit and the New York State Police Special Investigations Unit observed a 2016 Dodge traveling westbound on Interstate 84 at approximately 7:49 p.m. in violation of multiple vehicle and traffic laws.

Troopers stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Gary D. Price, 52, of Poughkeepsie, and the passenger as Taleatha Thomas, 46, of Irvington, New Jersey.

K-9 Kell conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle and gave a positive alert.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of a loaded Ruger SR40C .40 caliber handgun.

Price and Thomas were arrested and transported to State Police Montgomery for processing.

Price was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, a class E felony, and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony.

Thomas was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, a class E felony, and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony.

Price and Thomas were arraigned at the Orange County Central Arraignment Part.

Price was remanded to Orange County Jail and Thomas was released on her own recognizance pending a future court appearance.
