Man arrested on DWI charge in Cherry Valley

CHERRY VALLEY, NY — New York State Police arrested a local man on a drunken driving charge following a single-vehicle crash on May 23, 2026.

Troopers from the Richfield Springs barracks and members of the Springfield Fire Department responded to a crash on County Highway 54 shortly after 9 p.m.

Troopers arrived to find a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck in a ditch.

An investigation revealed that Eric S. Junick, 49, of Cherry Valley, was traveling east on County Highway 54 when he exited the north shoulder and went into a ditch.

While interviewing Junick, a trooper smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage and observed impairment.

Junick was transported to Bassett Hospital by Otsego County EMS for treatment.

Junick was issued an appearance ticket for the misdemeanor of driving while intoxicated.

After his release from the hospital, Junick was processed at State Police barracks in Richfield Springs.

He is scheduled to appear in Springfield Town Court on June 4, 2026.
