Man arrested on arson charge in Hinsdale

HINSDALE, NY — A man was arrested Saturday morning after authorities responded to a report of smoke and multiple fires at a residence.

David W. Goldsmith, 61, of Hinsdale, was taken into custody at 8:42 a.m. at his home, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.

Goldsmith was transported to the Olean Substation for processing.

He was charged with arson in the fourth degree and three counts of reckless endangerment in the second degree.

Goldsmith was released with an appearance ticket.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at a later date in the Town of Hinsdale.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fires.
