SCHENECTADY, NY — Two men were arrested following a shots fired incident near a basketball game in Central Park on May 26, 2026.
Members of the Schenectady Police Department were dispatched to the area of Division Street at approximately 12:26 p.m. for a reported shots fired incident.
During the investigation, officers learned that suspects approached a group of individuals who were playing basketball in Central Park.
A victim reported that the suspects had a prior dispute with him.
During the interaction, one of the suspects allegedly displayed a handgun and fired two rounds into the air before fleeing the scene.
The suspects were later located at 431 Division Street.
Both individuals were detained and transported to police headquarters without incident.
A search warrant was subsequently executed at the residence, where officers recovered a handgun.
Alexander C. Berry, 20, of Schenectady, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony, and menacing in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor.
Jahari J. Atkins-Richardson, 20, of Schenectady, was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, both class C felonies, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony, and menacing in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor.
