Firearm found in student vehicle at Hampden Academy

HAMPDEN, ME — Police discovered a firearm in a student’s vehicle at Hampden Academy on Wednesday morning.

The Hampden Police Department was called to assist school administration officials regarding a potential safety concern on school property.

School officials had received information indicating that a student had brought a firearm onto school property and stored it inside their vehicle.

An officer from the Hampden Police Department, working with school administration, located the vehicle in question.

A search of the vehicle revealed a firearm secured and locked inside the glovebox.

No ammunition was located with the firearm.

Police said there was no threat to the safety of RSU 22 students, faculty or staff during the incident.

The incident remains under investigation by the Hampden Police Department.
