LAKEWOOD, NJ — A 20-year-old man remained in critical condition following a single-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning.
Officers from the Lakewood Police Department responded to the area of East 7th Street and New York Avenue at approximately 12:57 a.m. for a report of an overturned vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers located a 2023 Hyundai Elantra overturned on its passenger side with a single occupant trapped inside.
Officers removed the driver, a 20-year-old man from Toms River, from the vehicle and immediately began rendering aid until EMS arrived on scene.
The driver was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
A preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle had been traveling westbound on East 7th Street when it left the roadway, struck a utility pole, continued across the front lawn of a residence, collided with an unoccupied parked vehicle, and ultimately overturned.
At this time, there are no indications that impairment was a contributing factor in the crash.
The Lakewood Police Department Traffic Safety Unit is actively investigating the incident.
