VERNON, CT — Police arrested a man on drunken driving and drug charges after discovering a homemade cannon in his vehicle during a traffic stop.
Benton Grenier, 55, of Vernon, was taken into custody at approximately 6:25 p.m. Wednesday on West Main Street.
Officer Wallace observed a vehicle operating erratically and committing several moving violations before conducting a motor vehicle stop.
Wallace, a certified Drug Recognition Expert, observed multiple signs of impairment from the operator.
Drug paraphernalia and suspected narcotics were observed inside the vehicle during the investigation.
Grenier did not perform to standard on Standardized Field Sobriety Tests that were administered.
During a search of the vehicle following the arrest, officers located a homemade cannon inside the trunk.
Grenier was charged with DUI, narcotics offenses and multiple motor vehicle violations.
