Driver charged with assault after crash on Meadowbrook State Parkway in Hempstead

HEMPSTEAD, NY — A Westbury man faces multiple charges after a two-car collision on the Meadowbrook State Parkway early Saturday morning that left one person seriously injured.

Troopers responded to the northbound parkway near M5 at approximately 2:48 a.m. on May 24, 2026, for reports of a motor vehicle collision.

Deondre L. Clark, 35, of Westbury, was driving a 2025 Toyota Camry at an unsafe speed when he struck the rear end of a 2015 Honda Pilot, according to state police.

The Honda Pilot was occupied by its operator and three passengers.

One passenger was ejected from the vehicle and taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

All other occupants were evaluated for minor non-life-threatening injuries.

Clark was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, a class B felony; second-degree assault, a class D felony; driving while intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor; and reckless driving.

The investigation is ongoing.
