Woman arrested on drug charges in Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, NY — Officers responded to Tops Markets at approximately 4:20 a.m. on May 20, 2026, for a report of a female asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle in the parking lot.

Upon arrival, officers of the Jamestown Police Department’s Third Platoon located the vehicle and made contact with the operator, identified as Tonya S. Thwing, 44, of Jamestown.

During the investigation, officers determined that Thwing was operating the vehicle while under the influence of drugs.

When officers attempted to place her into custody, she pulled away from officers and failed to comply with verbal commands.

Following a brief struggle, Thwing was taken into custody without further incident.

Thwing was transported to the Jamestown City Jail, where officers conducted an inventory of her property.

During the inventory, officers located a quantity of methamphetamine packaged for sale, as well as hydrocodone and alprazolam that were not prescribed to her.

Officers also recovered drug paraphernalia.

Thwing is charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5th Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd Degree, and Resisting Arrest.

She is currently being held pending arraignment.
