BEDFORD, NY — Three men were arrested late Thursday night in connection with a series of mail thefts from post office drop boxes in northern Westchester County.

Bedford police detectives had been investigating numerous thefts from drop boxes at the Katonah and Bedford Hills post offices over several weeks.

Using surveillance cameras, license plate readers and physical surveillance, detectives identified suspects and a vehicle being used in the crimes, according to a press release from Chief Melvin Padilla.

At approximately 11 p.m. Thursday, the suspect vehicle parked near the Bedford Hills Post Office.

Three individuals exited the vehicle, with two acting as lookouts while a third man walked to the postal drop box and removed multiple pieces of mail, concealing them in his pants, police said.

Members of the Detective Division and patrol units were already in the area conducting surveillance after license plate readers indicated the suspect vehicle was headed to Bedford.

Officers approached the men as they stood outside their vehicle and took them into custody without incident.

All three were transported to Bedford police headquarters, processed and charged with four counts of petit larceny, four counts of criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, possession of burglar tools and conspiracy in the sixth degree.

Arrested were Breilin Mirabel Matos, 26, of Mount Vernon; Orbik Gutierrez, 29, of the Bronx; and Raymond Duluc Nathanial, 23, of the Bronx.

All three defendants are scheduled to appear in Bedford Town Court on June 10.
