DUXBURY, MA — A maintenance worker at an apartment complex was arrested after police say he stole jewelry from multiple units and pawned the items.
Michael Ambrose, 31, of Kingston, was arrested May 4 on multiple counts of breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony and multiple counts of larceny from a person over 60.
The Duxbury Police Department investigated reports of property stolen from apartments at the Village at Duxbury during March and April.
Detectives reviewed surveillance footage and observed Ambrose, a maintenance employee at the complex, entering several apartments.
Investigators confirmed Ambrose had not been assigned maintenance work in those apartments and did not have authorization to enter them.
Detectives requested Ambrose come to the police station for questioning, where he denied taking any property from the apartments.
Following the interview, detectives visited several local pawn shops to recover stolen items.
Investigators identified several pieces of jewelry reported stolen from Duxbury residents that were later pawned by Ambrose.
Not all of the stolen jewelry could be recovered, as some time had passed and Massachusetts law only requires pawned items to be held for 30 days.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Ambrose based on the evidence gathered during the investigation.
Ambrose was arrested at his residence by members of the Duxbury Police Department with assistance from the Kingston Police Department.
