CAMBRIDGE, MA — A Somerville man faces multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a police officer and being found in possession of a firearm and narcotics.
Kyle Evans, 39, of Somerville, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer, possession of a Class A substance, possession of a firearm and ammunition, and resisting arrest.
Patrol officers assigned to North Cambridge recognized Evans near Rindge Avenue and Alewife Brook Parkway shortly after 8 a.m. Monday.
Officers were aware Evans had several active warrants for his arrest from courts in Boston and Rhode Island.
Evans allegedly attempted to flee when approached by officers.
A struggle ensued as officers caught up to him, during which Evans allegedly kicked officers and thrashed in an effort to break free.
A loaded magazine of ammunition allegedly fell from his person during the struggle.
Evans was placed into custody with the assistance of a bystander and backup officers.
A search incident to arrest uncovered a loaded .45 caliber handgun, a brown substance suspected to be heroin and fentanyl, and two fraudulent identification cards from other states.
Evans does not have a license to carry a firearm.
Evans was arraigned in Cambridge District Court.
