Man arrested in eluding police incident in Hopkinton

HOPKINTON, RI — A Connecticut man was arrested early Friday morning following a high-speed pursuit on Route 95.

Donald Thigpen, 48, of Stamford, Connecticut, was taken into custody at 1:19 a.m. and charged with reckless driving and eluding law enforcement in a high-speed pursuit, first offense.

The arrest followed a motor vehicle pursuit and subsequent traffic stop on Route 95.

Thigpen was transported to the State Police Hope Valley Barracks where he was processed and arraigned by a justice of the peace.

He was released with a future Fourth Division District Court date.

In a separate incident, Brian Morris, 39, of Charlotte, North Carolina, was arrested at 1:34 a.m. Friday on Nooseneck Hill Road in West Greenwich.

Morris was charged with possession of a Schedule I-V controlled substance less than 10 grams, identified as psilocybin mushrooms.

The arrest resulted from a motor vehicle stop.

Morris was transported to the State Police Hope Valley Barracks, processed, and arraigned by a justice of the peace.

He was released with a future Third Division District Court date.
