LAWRENCE, MA — A man was arrested on multiple firearms charges after allegedly firing a shot into the air on April 30, 2026.
Officers assigned to the Early Nights Patrol Division responded to the area of Lawrence Street and Chestnut Street following a ShotSpotter activation for a single gunshot.
A witness reported observing a male suspect fire one round into the air.
Responding officers and detectives canvassed the area and recovered one shell casing.
After reviewing private surveillance footage from the area, officers developed a description of the suspect, which was broadcast to all units.
A short time later, officers located the suspect, who was found to be in possession of a loaded Smith & Wesson M&P .40 caliber firearm.
The firearm contained seven rounds in the magazine, one round in the chamber, and was fitted with a large-capacity magazine.
The man was placed under arrest, transported to the station for booking, and charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, possession of a large capacity feeding device, and improper storage of a large capacity firearm.
