NEW HARTFORD, NY — A New Hartford dentist was arrested following a joint law enforcement investigation, according to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol.
In January 2026, the New York State Department of Health Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement began investigating Lawrence B. Marks, 76, of New Hartford, for allegedly prescribing and overprescribing narcotics to patients who were not being actively treated by him.
The Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement gathered information during its investigation and in April joined with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office to continue the case.
On May 13, investigators from the Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Sheriff’s Office went to Marks’ practice and gathered additional information.
Marks was subsequently arrested and taken to the Sheriff’s Office, where he was charged with two counts of criminal sale of a prescription for a controlled substance by a practitioner, class C felonies, and one count of falsifying business records in the first degree, a class E felony.
After processing, Marks was held at the Oneida County Correctional Facility pending arraignment in CAP Court.
