NEW HARTFORD, NY — Two schools were placed in lockout and hold-in-place status Tuesday after a threat was made referencing New Hartford High School.

The New Hartford Police Department is investigating the threat in coordination with officials from the New Hartford Central School District.

Both Bradley Elementary and the senior high school were locked down due to the specific nature of the threat.

No one is being permitted to enter or exit the buildings at this time.

New Hartford police officers, criminal investigators and command staff are on scene, along with K9 teams conducting searches of areas relevant to the investigation.

Police are asking members of the public to avoid the school campus.

The lockout and hold-in-place protocol currently in effect prohibits entry to and exit from the buildings.

Normal dismissal procedures will proceed as planned unless otherwise communicated by the district.

Police said the measures are being taken out of an abundance of caution.

Investigators are working to determine who is responsible for making the threat.
