Man arrested in Springfield homicide

SPRINGFIELD, MA — An 18-year-old man was arrested Tuesday morning in connection with a July 2024 homicide.

Members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit, Warrant Apprehension Unit, Hampden County Sheriff’s Department and United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Janadiel Resto-Sepulveda at approximately 9:40 a.m. inside an apartment on the 0-100 block of Middlesex Street.

On July 14, 2024 at approximately 10:55 p.m., officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation on the 100 block of Massasoit Street.

Officers located an adult male gunshot victim who was transported to Baystate and succumbed to his injuries.

The victim was later identified as Damontey Williams, 19, of Springfield.

The Springfield Police Homicide Unit investigated in conjunction with the Hampden District Attorney’s Murder Unit.

Springfield Police Homicide Detectives identified Resto-Sepulveda as a suspect and on Monday applied for and were granted a warrant for his arrest.

Resto-Sepulveda, of Springfield, is charged with murder, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, carrying a loaded firearm without a license and carrying a firearm without a license.

He is expected to be arraigned in Springfield District Court Tuesday afternoon.
